Boy Scouts to Gather for Fifth Annual Forestry Merit Badge Weekend

Boy Scouts in Old Trail and Iron Horse Districts will visit Walnut Ridge for the Fifth Annual Forestry Merit Badge Weekend on Saturday, October 10th, 2015 from 12-5pm. These scouts will work with Independent Forester Brian Gandy to complete the requirements for the Merit Badge.

Scouts will spend the day at Walnut Ridge. Brian Gandy, an accredited independent forester, will work with the scouts and adults teaching them proper forest management, identification of trees, shrubs and vines, proper care and safety when logging and felling trees, impacts of forestry on our economy and ecology, and employment opportunities in the forestry industry. Scouts will take a nature hike to experience and discuss what they learned, and then return to the campsite to discuss and evaluate what they learned. There will be a break for some hot dogs and beans.
